River Aid San Antonio: A Mission to Restore Our Waterways

The San Antonio River has long been a symbol of life, commerce, and recreation in our city, but over time, pollution and neglect have threatened its health. That’s where River Aid San Antonio (RASA) comes in. Founded in 2021, RASA emerged from a simple, yet powerful mission: to restore the beauty and vitality of the San Antonio River Basin. Today, we’re not just cleaning rivers—we’re bringing our community together to reclaim a vital resource.

In just four years, RASA’s efforts have already made a monumental impact. Our Watershed Cleanup Program has removed over 650,600 pounds of trash from local creeks, rivers, and lakes. Every tire pulled from the mud, every plastic bottle fished from a creek, is a testament to the power of collective action and community determination.

Our annual event, the Basura Bash, has grown to become the largest single-day waterway cleanup in Texas. In 2025, we mobilized more than 2,100 volunteers, who together removed 105,760 pounds of waste from 24 different locations around the city. This annual event isn’t just about cleaning—it’s about educating the public, raising awareness, and empowering people to make a lasting difference.

Our work doesn’t stop there. RASA has also partnered with the City of San Antonio (CoSA) to provide regular cleanup services at Woodlawn Lake, and last fall, we installed floatable litter-capturing systems at CoSA's Martin Luther King and Bexar County's Comanche Park. By combining hands-on cleanup efforts and infrastructure with education and advocacy, we’re building a future where San Antonio’s waterways are cleaner, healthier, and more resilient.

Our Litter Boom Systems act as infrastructure for prevention, intercepting trash as it flows downstream before it can spread further into the watershed. With two service visits each month, our teams remove debris caught in the booms, preventing it from entering the San Antonio River system.

The Power of Your Support: This vital work is only possible with the help of our supporters. Every donation we receive directly fuels our cleanup operations, helping us purchase the tools, supplies, and resources needed to continue our mission. More importantly, your support invests in the long-term health of our city’s environment, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the natural beauty of San Antonio’s rivers.

When you donate to River Aid San Antonio, you’re joining a movement that is reshaping how we care for our environment. You’re helping to restore the heart of our city—one city, one river, one people. Together, we are RASA. Together, we can make San Antonio’s rivers a source of pride for generations to come.
