The River City Chorale is the longest-standing community choral organization in the Sacramento region. The 30-voice Chorale has brought high-quality choral music to the region for over four decades. Founded in 1977 by Mary and Bob Balkow, the Chorale has had five artistic directors: Jack Carey, Walter Kerfoot, Mel Olson, Richard Morrissey, and, since 2019, David Vanderbout. Committed to excellence in choral music, the singers work diligently while having fun preparing and performing three distinctively different concert sets each season. The Chorale performs music in a variety of styles, including classical, multicultural, folk, jazz, musical theatre, and pop. Membership is open to all adults, subject to audition and the needs of each vocal section. In addition to regional concerts, the Chorale performs internationally every three years.

Our Spring Concert in May is titled "Mambo Italiano" and features songs from many genres, including popular, classical, spiritual, that celebrate the music of Italy, from the Renaissance to present time.

The River City Chorale operates on a modest budget of approximately $53,000 per year, relying on revenue from membership dues, ticket sales, fundraisers, advertisements, and donations. With the support of the Chorale's incredible donors and audience members, we look forward to bringing high-quality and diverse choral music to the Sacramento community for many years to come.
