Rivers Edge Horse Rescue and Sanctuary

Rivers Edge Horse Rescue and Sanctuary is a Registered 501(c)3 Non-Profit Corporation in NJ dedicated to the health and welfare of abused, abandoned, and unwanted slaughter-bound horses.  Founded in 2010 by Diane Romano-Potocki, Rivers Edge provides a sanctuary where they can live out the remainder of their lives with dignity and peace, at a loving and caring facility.  The ultimate goal of the sanctuary is to rehabilitate the horses back to a healthy and happy condition. This includes providing them with the daily feed, exercise, therapy, general care and needed medical treatments. Although some horses may be suitable for adoption, many are here for life. A working horse sanctuary provides an incredible opportunity for bonds to form between these beautiful gentle animals and the community of people who generously support the sanctuary.  

Covid 19 wasn't on our vision board for 2020! Actually, we had very big plans for 2020 which included work on the farm to rotate our fields.  This would greatly improve our pastures and get our horses back to natural grazing. Although it seems like a lifetime ago, the Rivers Edge Horse Rescue,  which resides within the 4 Winds Horse Ranch,  was severely damaged by Hurricane Irene and Tropical storm Lee in 2011. These storms wiped out our pastures- something that had never happened before on this 200 year-old farm! Without our fertile fields, the great majority of funds are being used on daily feed and care for the 21 rescued sanctuary horses, leaving absolutely no money leftover for the much needed repair and rebuilding work. 

We are optimistic that this storm will also pass! Please help us grow our funds to support us through the pandemic and quarantine.  When we all emerge on the other side of Covid 19, Rivers Edge Horse Rescue is hopeful that we will have been able to provide for all of our horses as well as to build towards our future.
