• Justin, a young police officer was in the hospital in a coma as the result of on on-duty accident.  RLA helped his father obtain a conservatorship over him so he could take care of the officer’s business and authorize treatment for him.

• Ms. G is a disabled senior citizen who was being physically neglected and financially abused by her adult son who lived with her.  RLA helped her evict him and obtain a restraining order so she no longer had to live in fear.

• When she came to RLA's federal court clinic for help with her lawsuit against someone who had defrauded her out of her life savings, she was lost.  The defendant had refused to negotiate, no doubt banking on her inability to navigate through federal court on her own, and trial was imminent.  One of RLS’s volunteer attorneys took on the case pro bono and proceeded to trial.  After the attorney’s examination of the first witness, the defendant made his first settlement offer.  The case settled; the settlement was paid.  The client recovered her savings. 

In the past year, more than 50 Riverside County lawyers volunteered close to 3,000 hours through Riverside Legal Aid to help more than 2,800 families, children, seniors and single adults with domestic violence and elder abuse restraining orders, family law, guardianships, conservatorships, evictions, bankruptcies and other civil legal problems.   

Although attorneys donate their time, there are costs associated with providing legal services, such as paralegals, clerical workers to answer phones and make appointments, rent, research tools, training, phones, insurance, supplies and equipment.

At a time when the need for legal services is increasing, our resources are dwindling.  Your donation to RIVERSIDE LEGAL AID will help us continue to do our good work helping those most in need.
