The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia (RMHC-SWVA) is to provide an environment of love, community, and hope to families of seriously ill children.
Message for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia
Imagine your grandchild being born weeks too early; imagine your active teenager has been rendered silent due to an automobile accident; imagine your toddler being diagnosed with cancer. Now imagine having to travel miles from home for your child to receive medical care. Where will you stay? Can you afford to eat out every day? We are here to relieve these worries and financial burden, all in a caring and supportive atmosphere.
Studies have shown that when staying at a Ronald McDonald House, families are able to spend more time at their child’s bedside and participate in their medical care, enhancing children’s and parents’ hospital experience.
Many families come to the Ronald McDonald House, having experienced an emergency and haven't packed for a long-term stay, or even a one- or two-night stay. When family's check-in we offer our families Welcome Bags to make sure they are all taken care of. These Welcome Bags is a reusable bag that includes toiletry items, notebooks and writing utensils (to be prepared to take notes at the hospital as well as write down thoughts, questions, etc.), kid's items for siblings and parents during long visits by their sick child's bedside, activities for the patient, snacks and water bottles, baby items for newborns that came a bit too early so mom and dad are prepared immediately when they get to head home PLUS much more.
This year for GiveLocalNRV - we are asking for donations to help us purchase needed items for our Welcome Bags. Our goal of $3,000 will help us purchase additional reusable bags as well as necessary items.
