Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project

A nonprofit organization

The Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project (RMVAP) provides military and veteran legal advocacy services, pairing individual veterans and military servicemembers with licensed attorneys. These teams work primarily on VA disability benefit compensation cases at the regional level, Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA), and Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC), as well as discharge upgrade cases before the Boards of the Department of Defense. Our goal is to better help veterans and military servicemembers navigate the Veterans Affairs’ system and the appeals process, and to assist prior servicemembers in obtaining the discharge status that they rightfully deserve. We accept applications from veterans nationwide, but due to limited resources, must preference veterans in the Colorado and Rocky Mountain Region.

Striving to ensure our military servicemembers and veterans have all their legal needs met with compassion and a deep understanding of the intersection between the military and law, the RMVAP has recently expanded to offer both Family Law and Estate Planning services (limited to jurisdictions in Colorado). Our family law services focus primarily on divorce (with or without children), maintenance (alimony), property division, parenting time, child support, post-decree modifications, and relocation, and other instances where the courts become involved with a family. Our estate planning services include Last Will and Testament, General Durable Power of Attorney, Medical Power of Attorney, Living Wills (Medical Directives), and Revocable Trusts. We offer Probate Services as well.

The RMVAP was founded in 2020 by four University of Denver law graduates dedicated to advocating for veterans and military servicemembers. In partnership with the Sturm College of Law, and in the spirit of the former Veterans Advocacy Project, the RMVAP also extends experiential learning opportunities to current Denver law students.
