River of Life Mission

We are a faith-based 501(c)(3) non profit located in the historic Chinatown district of Honolulu. Since 1985 the Mission has been an oasis for many who through error, disability, discrimination or circumstance have found themselves in a state of hopelessness.  

We provide a multitude of services:

Our services provide meals, boxed food, toiletries, clean showers, clothing, job training, furniture, household products, appliances, casework services, and even prayer.  All of these services are provided free of charge. 

We help a wide variety of people:

Every day hundreds of people from all walks of life come through our doors:  the homeless, the elderly, and the addicted as well as the mentally ill, the forgotten veteran, the disabled, families with children, the aging prostitute and those recently released from prison.  Some are marginally employed, some are skilled but temporarily unemployed and many are virtually unemployable.   They are ethnically very diverse.  Some are strong faith of many varieties, and some have no discernable faith whatsoever.  All are equally welcome!

You are vital to the mission:

River of Life Mission does not receive state or federal funding aid.  Approximately 80% of our donations come from giving individuals just like you with the average donation being $40. The remaining donations come from churches, organizations, and businesses.  Without the individual donations the Mission would suffer.

Donating to our mission is a good investment:

For every dollar in donations approximately 7 cents goes toward administrative and fundraising.  93 cents goes directly toward mission programs and services.  Simply put, the average overhead cost for a non for profit is 20% and higher.  We come in way below the average at 7%.  The Mission is also audited by a local CPA firm annually with public financial reports.
