Reflecting upon history and documenting accomplishments, the Board of Directors senses an overwhelming pride and fiduciary responsibility. We have maintained the Mission set forth at the creation of the Foundation. In 1964, the first Annual Report noted awarding six scholarships and an investment portfolio of approximately $54,000. In the past academic year, we awarded about 250 scholarships totaling approximately $450,000. We expect to grow the number of scholarships and the size of financial support.

Where does the money come from? Our investment portfolio and real estate is now approaching $16,000,000. The Board provides stewardship and funds are professionally managed. Subject to a Gift Acceptance Policy, the LBRSF accepts tax-deductible contributions from Long Beach Rotary Club members and those seeking to support our Mission and youth in our community.

We are joyfully providing financial assistance to qualified scholars who may not fit the mold for financial aid, however, cannot afford the multi-tier cost of higher education.

The LBRSF is the largest annual scholarship donor to LBCC and to CSULB. We are supporting vocational, trades and academic success and thereby ensuring a productive workforce for the future.

Testimonials

"As the son of Theron H. Slaughter, a physician, I grew up in Long Beach and learned early that providing support for the community's children to reach their highest educational goals improves the quality of the community and makes it a better place to live for everyone. I feel the Long Beach Rotary Scholarship Foundation provides the best opportunity to support my love of Long Beach and my belief that the education of our youth is a key method of reaching this goal."
Bill Slaughter

"We started the Newell Scholarship to assist students who have overcome personal challenges in their lives and now are a source of inspiration through their academics and community service. After years of service on the Rotary Scholarship Foundation Board, I knew that the Foundation would administer the scholarship and manage our donation in an efficient, professional and cost effective manner."
Frank and Margie Newell

"It is my privilege to continue the Don Temple legacy of encouraging 'education for all.' It is my hope that our Scholarships will 'springboard' students toward a rewarding future, which benefits our community as a whole. Thank you to Long Beach Rotary Scholarship Foundation for providing this avenue."
Marlene Temple - Don Temple Family Foundation

"Long Beach needs education. We need to prepare youth to be educated and ready to go to work, be productive. There is a darn small amount spent on overhead. We are confident of the people presently involved. The Rotary Scholarship Foundation does not operate 'behind the curtain'."
Vic and Patty McCarty

"This is a great way to help young people."
