Since 1876, RSD has helped build successful futures for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and their families in Western and Centeral New York.

Students are immersed in an environment that is both bilingual (ASL and English) and bicultural (Deaf and hearing), and they receive an education that is adapted to their individual needs and abilities.  This includes Regents-level educational programs as well as a modified curriculum for students with special needs.

Our "direct communication environment" means that students can learn in a barrier-free setting, communicating directly with their teachers and peers using ASL.

In addition to outreach services and cultural support, RSD also provides a variety of opportunities for students to develop their leadership, social and athletic abilities through competitive sports, clubs, scouting, travel opportunities and community events.

We also evening offer ASL classes to students' family members and the general public.
