Ruth Bancroft Garden Inc

The Ruth Bancroft Garden is a world renowned drought tolerant garden in Walnut Creek, California, that preserves and develops founder Ruth Bancroft’s stunning plant collection and garden design for the inspiration and education of the public.

In 1992,  Ruth Bancroft  deeded this inspirational space to the public nonprofit organization, The Ruth Bancroft Garden Inc. This  The 3 ½ acre Garden welcomed over 12,000 visitors to the East Bay region in 2014.  

The Garden has a year round nursery and a robust program of classes and outdoor events from April through October which help support the maintenance and development of the Garden and its mission. Over 1700 members, generous friends and hundreds of volunteers help provide close to 75% percent of the Garden’s $560,000 budget through memberships, gifts, and events during the year.  Plant sales and visitors provide the rest of the budget.
