In 2011 a small group of musicians, artists, producers, songwriters, engineers and music lovers came together to start Signature Music Design (SMD); a non-profit record label focused on raising support and awareness for both artists and charities.  We recognized that music alone, although inspiring and uplifting, is just simply not enough in a time when over 10 million in the US alone are unemployed, and when there are over 150 million orphans worldwide.  People are hurting deeply and are in need of our attention and help.  So we have decided to do our part and design a platform for musicians and artists to have a voice and an outlet to help rescue those in need.

We are in an industry that is struggling.  On the outside it appears to be staying afloat but many professionals admit to the hemorrhaging of what used to be an undoubtedly thriving empire.  Statistics show that there has been a 77% drop in debut album sales and that the number of people employed as musicians in the US has decreased by over 17% in the past few years.  Record stores are extinct, cd’s are quickly becoming archaic and the value of true musicianship is on the decline.  We at SMD believe that music has become too common and has been left to drift without true passion centering around money making trends.  That’s not what we do.  We aren’t trying to line our pockets by getting people to follow a new trend. No! We are trying to reconnect our artists to a greater purpose like James Brown and Aretha Franklin, who are connected to the Civil Right’s Movement and like Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby and Duke Ellington who are tied to one of the darkest moments in American History, The Great Depression.  These great artists have embraced the responsibility to not only be good at their craft but to also be honest, comforting and encouraging to the people of this world.
