The San Angelo Amateur Radio Club (SAARC) and Tom Green County ARES are volunteer-driven, non-profit organizations that play a vital role in public safety, education, and emergency preparedness across West Texas. Our members are licensed amateur radio operators who provide reliable communications during disasters, when traditional systems fail. We support local emergency management, law enforcement, fire departments, and health agencies by ensuring continuous communication in critical moments.
Beyond emergencies, we empower the community through workshops, licensing classes, and STEM-focused education and outreach. We actively support science, technology, engineering, and math by collaborating with schools, civic groups, and nonprofits to promote hands-on learning in radio science and electronics.
With a strong commitment to inclusivity and innovation, SAARC and ARES build community resilience and foster a culture of service through amateur radio in San Angelo and the surrounding region.
"As a student, Ham Radio introduced me to the world of radio technology and electronics through fun, hands-on STEM workshops that sparked my interest in engineering."
"During local disasters, Amateur Radio operators are on the front lines, keeping communication flowing when cell towers go down. Their work is essential for public safety."
"Ham Radio empowers youth and adults alike through education, mentorship, and service. Being part of this community has opened doors I never imagined-both technically and personally."
