At Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth of South Carolina, Inc. (SAFY of SC), we work with children and families to reach their full potential increasing the well-being of our communities. Driven by our mission of Preserving Families and Securing Futures for over 20 years, SAFY of SC has constructed a comprehensive blueprint of services allowing families to receive varying levels of care without the delays, confusion and stress associated with switching service providers. Our Model of Care includes treatment foster care, adoption services, post-adoption finalization services, office and home based mental health services, family preservation and reunification services and independent living services. This structure offers the tools needed to develop and maintain stable mental, physical and emotional foundations helping families overcome the storm where they are - in home, at school or work or in the community.

Carole Ann, a 37-year-old mother, had already lost her children once to foster care due to addiction and neglect and she was on the verge of losing them again when she entered treatment and SAFY of SC's Family Preservation Program. She began visiting her children and worked with social service agencies so they could return home.

The family celebrated when they reunited, but within a few weeks, she was struggling again to deal with the anger and resentment her children felt toward her. The home was without food or furniture and the children needed clothes. SAFY of SC's Community-Based Prevention Services provided therapy, help in getting food and clothes, counseling and parenting classes.

Fourteen months later, three of her four children are home and Carole Anne is feeling proud and confident about her new skills as a parent. "I just want to be a good mother to my children," she says.
