Boy Scouts of America

A nonprofit organization

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to develop active participating citizens through programs that provide leadership experiences and character-building opportunities.

As our world becomes ever more connected and accessible, young people are facing complex choices earlier in life. As parents, mentors, and community members we want to make sure that our children are equipped to navigate the world, be successful, and make positive contributions to the community.

Scouting builds character and confidence, two essential factors that help young people make the right choices no matter the situation. Kids who participate in activities that build confidence are more likely to stick to their values when tested by difficult decisions. In Scouting, we call our activities things like camping, aquatics, and merit badges. But these activities actually are leadership training, confidence building, and life experience.

The Southeast Louisiana Council provides the infrastructure that supports more than 160 local Scouting units. Including Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, Sea Scout Ships, and Explorer Posts. We serve more than 4,500 young people from ages 5 to 20 who are supported by more than 1,000 adult volunteers. Your support, no matter the amount, adds up to a real impact in the lives of our Scouts giving them opportunities to better them

Testimonials

Several years ago, youth in the foster care system residing at a local children's home were able to participate in the Southeast Louisiana Council's annual Thanksgiving Camp at Salmen Scout Reservation, also called Camp V-Bar. Their Scoutmaster said, "These boys were very grateful that our local [Council] was able to absorb the cost so that they were able to attend. The excitement that these boys were able to share with other Scouts was such an extraordinary feeling. The smiles on their faces as they learned new skills and see them so proud of their accomplishments touched our hearts. Being able to hike and explore the area by themselves gave them a sense of freedom.
