Setting Children on the Road to Excellence Inc. (www.scoreyouth.com) was founded in 2018 and is a nonprofit organization dedicated to healing communities through offering services to at risk youth while shining a light on their gifts through mentoring, mindfulness, creative expression and life changing experiences. S.C.O.R.E. aims to result in the increase of confidence, courage, education and development to align students with their passion and purpose. S.C.O.R.E. has three major project focuses that address underlying issues of our communities. A subset of youth go without access to exposure to post-secondary education. S.C.O.R.E.'S College & Career Project aims to take 70 students to five Louisiana colleges in fall 2022 (Aug.-Nov. 2022) and 70 students to five Louisiana colleges in Spring 2023 (Jan.-Apr. 2023). Funding will support tour expenses, workshop supplies, and consultant fees. Larry Wilson CEO of S.C.O.R.E. will lead this project. S.C.O.R.E.'s second initiative addresses the declining levels of focus, memory, self-esteem and academic performance within classrooms. The S.C.O.R.E. Mindfulness Project aims to offer mindfulness sessions to a maximum of 120 students from three schools to address youth behavior from Aug. 2022- Apr. 2023. Funding will support supplies, snacks, training, and instructor fees. Global EYRT Mitzi Henderson will lead this project. S.C.O.R.E.'s third initiative supports creative students who have lost creative programming due to defunding of enrichment programming and COVID-19. The S.C.O.R.E. public art campaign will collaborate with a maximum of 60 students from at least six schools to generate public art that revitalizes underserved communities from July 2022-May 2023. Funding for the art campaign goes towards paint supplies and artist wages. Public artist, KaDavien Baylor, leads this program and holds a BFA in Liberal Arts. S.C.O.R.E.'s goal is to have successfully educated 140 students in their options for post-secondary education. Plans also include the implementation of mindfulness programming into three schools for at 120 students and the production of public art projects with a maximum of 60 kids suffering creative enrichment withdrawals from at least six schools.
