SCHAF was established in 2010 with a goal to becoming custodians of the rare B 25C (GF 2), and to work towards its preservation and restoration to a museum quality standard. One of only 6 in the world, it is an early model based in Greenville during WW2, which crash landed in Lake Greenwood. After 39 yrs it was raised in 1983 was put on display in Greenville. After several owners little was done to preserve the frame which was gradually picked apart by collectors. SCHAF formed from interested volunteer members to reverse this process and preserve her legacy to tell both her story as an example of the extraordinary role SC played during the war. With extensive research by volunteers we tracked down the pilot who was flying her the day she crashed and documented many details of both that day as well as other accounts he gave during his time serving during the war.
Our Foundation aims to establish a center for preservation and education to document the incredible history of aviation throughout the years. South Carolina has NO aviation museums despite being a massive center for the aerospace industry today. We need to document our history and educate everyone about our own history. Our members have spent considerable time and effort to document and collect as many artifacts relevant to the period. To date two more aircraft has joined our collection thourgh donations to be preserved based on what our volunteers have done with GF2 so far. If you have not seen her - you need to meet her.
