Sewickley Valley Historical Society

A nonprofit organization

The mission of the Sewickley Valley Historical Society is to promote interest in and to record, collect, preserve, and document the history of the Sewickley Valley.

Our headquarters is located in the 1910 Beaux Arts style Old Post Office building at the entrance to Sewickley by the Sewickley Bridge. Our research facility contains voluminous records concerning the eleven communities in the Sewickley Valley, accessible through an indexed digital database. The collection is especially rich in family histories and photographs. There is an obituary card file consisting of thirty thousand decedents going back to the mid nineteenth century. In house we have a complete run of the town newspaper The Sewickley Herald, founded 1903, and a collection of newspapers which preceded the Herald. In addition to our archives, we have numerous paintings, memorabilia military and otherwise, vintage clothing and other local artifacts. The collection grows apace through donations by the community.
