Southwest Nebraska Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors Team

A nonprofit organization

To offer hope, support, and resources to those affected by suicide.

We are a group of volunteers who have been directly affected by the loss of a loved one due to suicide. LOSS stands for Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors. The team is comprised of suicide survivors as well as counselors/clinicians (who may or may not have been directly affected by suicide). Once notified, the team of two to three members will schedule a time in which a visit can be arranged for those affected by the loss. During the visit, the team can offer a unique and understanding perspective, experienced peer to peer support, provide helpful materials, and we will provide supportive follow ups for the individuals after the visit. The LOSS experience has been proven to dramatically decrease the amount of time between a completed suicide and when treatment is sought by the individuals affected, if needed. Research has shown that those who have participated in the LOSS process are more likely to seek help sooner. In fact, help is often sought within 60 days of the loss versus 4 ½ years for those who have not had the LOSS support. The LOSS team provides the support and encouragement to show those affected that there is still hope and life after a suicide can be meaningful.
