The Sacred Harp Musical Heritage Association (SHMHA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is the perpetuation and preservation of Sacred Harp singing and its traditions. SHMHA’s interests include singing schools, singings / conventions, traditional singing practices, and the history and traditions of Sacred Harp.
SHMHA sponsors annual sessions of "Camp Fasola," summer camps for learning and singing Sacred Harp music. Camp Fasola is a summer camp experience for immersive learning of traditional Sacred Harp shaped note singing and traditions. Multiple daily sessions are devoted to teaching Sacred Harp singing as well as sessions for singing and fellowship with traditional summer camp recreation activities.
SHMHA will sponsor three camp sessions in 2012: Adult Camp near Double Springs, Ala (June 10-14); Youth Camp in Anniston, Ala (July 2-6); and the first camp outside the U.S. in Poland (September 17-21).
SHMHA publishes the Directory and Minutes of Sacred Harp Singings publication, sponsors the http://fasola.org web site, and facilitates other projects to promote Sacred Harp singing. SHMHA holds its annual meeting on Saturday before the fourth Sunday in November in Birmingham.
The Sacred Harp Musical Heritage Association is delegated the responsibility for the publication, printing, and distribution of the Directory and Minutes of Sacred Harp Singings by the Alabama State Sacred Harp Convention. This publication has an annual circulation of approximately 3,000 to singers across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
SHMHA gratefully accepts tax deductible contributions of cash, stock, or other property to support projects to promote Sacred Harp singing. Memorial or in honor contributions will be acknowledged at your request.
