Science in Service of Wildlife and Lands

Sageland Collaborative works with partners and volunteer community scientists to provide science-based strategies for wildlife and land conservation. Through a variety of programs, we engage our communities in data collection and habitat restoration to support wildlife across the West.

Since 2019, Sageland Collaborative and partners have completed 3restoration projects in Summit County - from Kimball Junction to the high Uintas and the rangelands in between.

This year alone, Sageland Collaborative and our volunteers successfully built 599 beaver dam analogs (human-made beaver dams) in 10 streams across Summit County, creating positive and lasting impacts on the landscape for humans and wildlife alike. We also planted over 500 pollinator-friendly plants at two restoration sites in Summit County, building on the positive impact of beaver dam analogs on habitat restoration outcomes at these sites.

In addition to our work on the ground, we are also committed to continued growth of the restoration community in Summit County and beyond. This year, we co-hosted a riparian restoration workshop celebrating multiple years of restoration work in the Weber River's headwaters with over 80 attendees.

Across all of these restoration activities, volunteers spent 1,680 hours healing rivers and streams of Summit County alongside Sageland Collaborative staff, and dozens of project partners and landowners.

Mark your calendar for Friday, November 15, and donate to support wildlife and land conservation in Summit County!

Conservation through Collaboration

Our work is built upon the premise of collaboration. We work with communities across the West to collect data that allows our partners to best prioritize habitat management and conservation efforts.

In Summit County, we are proud to partner with Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter and Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District to monitor the benefits of this restoration work, which includes beaver reintroductions.

Our work in the Weber Headwaters would not be possible without the support of our incredible partners at Trout Unlimited. These restoration sites support a diversity of wildlife, including northern leopard frog, monarch butterfly, pronghorn, elk - and, thanks to years of collaborative restoration, beaver.

We also work with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the U.S. Forest Service to restore streams near Smith & Morehouse Reservoir. This area hosts crucial habitat for the Western Bumble bee, a species that is in rapid decline across the Western United States.

Healthy watersheds in Summit County and across the West sustain humans and wildlife of all kinds. From the beaver to the boreal toad, moose to monarch butterfly, and every large game species and charismatic microfauna in between - we all rely on clean water to survive. Your donations today support the work we do to restore these critical ecosystems.
