Saint Bernadette Diaper Bank

The Saint Bernadette Diaper Bank is an all-volunteer outreach ministry that donates diapers to several local partnering agencies in Louisville Metro who then distribute diapers to individual low income and impoverished families. We are currently assisting 25 local partnering agencies who are able to put in a monthly request for diaper sizes they need. These requests are filled to the best of our ability by diaper donations we receive. Momentary donations are used to purchase diapers to help fill the request that we don't receive from physical diaper donations. For the year 2023 we donated 600, 696 diapers. That seems like a lot of diapers but is only a drop in the bucket to fill the need in our community. The National Diaper Bank Network recommends that every baby receive 50 diapers per month as a supplement only. In 2018 the (NDBN) did a study on diaper need in the state of Kentucky and to meet the need in Louisville Metro alone we would have to distribute 3 million diapers per year. This study was pre-covid 19 so we can only imagine what that number is today. Some people ask why do they use disposable diapers and why they can't use cloth diapers? The reason the families we assist can't use cloth diapers is because they don't always have access to laundry facilities or access to water to wash the cloth diapers. Laundry mats don't allow families to wash cloth diapers for sanitary reasons and daycares require families supply a full day of disposable diapers or they can't leave their children at the day care facility. Our mission is to help relieve the burden of diaper need in our community by raising awareness and collecting diapers for low income and impoverished families, to ensure that every baby in our community has enough diapers to remain clean, dry and healthy. Our Goal is to educate the public about the devastating crisis of diaper need locally and nationally, to continue to grow our diaper bank and diminish the silent diaper need in our community.
