San Antonio Threads

San Antonio Threads was founded in 2016 due to witnessing the need firsthand for decent clothing, shoes and essentials for youth in foster care. Foster youth were rummaging through boxes & barrels for less than thrift store clothing. Many times, the clothing had not been washed, was stained, missing a button, or the zipper broken. Foster youth are removed from their homes and often are unable to take any of their belongings with them. This makes going to a new school difficult without a change of clothes, or a doctor's appointment and even a court date. 

San Antonio Threads started serving foster youth ages 12-21 and because of the need, it grew to include youth that have aged out of care, homeless youth, students without access to a closet, trafficked survivors, youth fleeing domestic violence, and house fires. We began serving 358 youth in 2016 and grew to 20,649 in 2024!!! The need for new clothing, shoes, undies, socks, hygiene, jackets, business casual clothing, slip resistant shoes, for gaining employment or graduation is a huge need everywhere. 

In order to reach more youth in need we have expanded to offer a Mini-Threads at SAISD, South San ISD, Somerset ISD, RMYA, R3 Student Outreach (two locations) giving students in need access to new clothing, shoes & more without missing class time. Many times, older youth will not attend school because they don't own appropriate clothing and shoes that fit. We have found that school attendance has increased with new clothing, shoes & hygiene being offered at no cost. 

Our team of Staff & Volunteers have seen it time & time again, the difference it makes to have the opportunity to shop for new clothing, shoes, essentials, hygiene, free of charge. After each youth's shopping experience, each youth leaves a handwritten note, answering the question, What do NEW clothes mean to you? The notes our clients have left provide smiles, laughter, and inspiration to keep our nonprofit going. Who We Are

We are a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a safe and nurturing shopping experience for deserving teens in the San Antonio, TX area. Teens shop for new and new-like clothing, accessories and toiletries for FREE. Our target age group is 12-21 years of age and include teens in foster care, aged out of foster care, homeless, in an emergency situation or otherwise referred teens.
We operate with 100 % volunteers.
