Far too many valuable forest landscapes --scenic viewshed and vital shelter for cherished wildlife-- are stranded in un-protected ownerships and headed for eventual urbanization unless we help. Supporting the SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS LAND TRUST is the best way to rescue these legendary landscapes, key parts of our most outstanding natural heritage.
PROTECTING PLANTS AND WILD ANIMALS
We are restoring the last remaining natural forest site in Lake Arrowhead and have begun work on a major 700-acre pebble plain ecological reserve in Big Bear --rare forest habitat found nowhere else in the world. In nearly 20 years SBMLT has protected over 15,000 acres of magnificent forest lands all across the mountain region: grand vistas, wildlife habitat, streams, and great outdoor recreational opportunities.
OUR BIG CHALLENGE
At least 50 iconic landscapes still remain to be rescued throughout our magnificent mountain range, up to 40,000 acres. Few people realize that these stranded and imperiled wildlife properties inside the San Bernardino National Forest are not protected by the Forest Service. Their future depends on the success of our local Land Trust. It is up to all of us, working with SBMLT, to rescue these legendary landscapes.
COME SEE FOR YOURSELF
Visit SBMLT’s scenic trails at Strawberry Peak, Arrowhead Ridge, Coyote Rock, and the Pebble Plain Ecological Reserve to see places that have been protected by Land Trust supporters. If you are a major donor, ask about SBMLT’s impressive commemorative donor wall, a dramatic flagstone monument being established in the center of the Lake Arrowhead community by those who care deeply about our forest's future.
CONSERVATION is a FORM OF ART
Contributions of all levels from supporters San Bernardino Mountains Land Trustare tremendously welcome. They allow SBMLT to attract greater help from large donors, foundations, federal and state grants and Congressional programs. Ongoing success --and the importance of this inspirational Forest-- make it possible for us to leverage your community support to make major land acquisitions that cost upwards of a million dollars and sometimes much more. It is a grand feeling to visit one of these rescued sites, to walk the trail, to stand atop a scenic vista, to fish in a pristine trout stream and know that all these beautiful surroundings have not been lost or bulldozed over, but saved and made accessible for future generations to enjoy because of your help.
Every donation counts and makes a permanent difference in rescuing more and more of these irreplaceable parts of Southern California’s most outstanding natural heritage.
"I think having LAND and not ruining it is the most beautiful ART that anyone could ever want to own."
