Our organization stands as a sentinel against hunger and malnutrition in San Diego County. We accomplish this not by providing food directly, but by leading coordinated actions rooted in meticulous research, comprehensive education, and persuasive advocacy. Our overarching aim is to enact systemic changes that ensure anyone in need of food assistance can get it.

Many may believe that the hunger crisis has improved, but the fact remains that almost 1 in 4 people in San Diego County do not get enough healthy food each day. The need for our community to act is more urgent than ever, as families and seniors are facing both the end of pandemic aid and continued inflation.

San Diego Hunger Coalition's research indicates that:

  1. An alarming 194,621 children in San Diego County are nutrition insecure, representing 28% of the child population.
  2. Moreover, 151,391 older adults (60+) are in the same predicament, representing 22% of the senior population.

These figures are not mere statistics; they correspond to real individuals—our neighbors, friends, and family—who face daily hardships due to insufficient income to purchase enough healthy food. September is Hunger Awareness month but the Hunger Coalition leads collective advocacy and action year-round.  Your participation is not only welcomed but fundamentally necessary. Together, we can shape a community where access to enough nutritious food is not a privilege, but a right for all.
