For over 40 years, the San Diego Organizing Project (SDOP) has equipped people of faith and spiritual values to build power and organize their communities to win racial and economic justice policies across. We are a grassroots, multi-faith network of 21 congregations that represents more than 30,000 people across San Diego County.

The primary issues SDOP addresses are:

  1. Justice System Reform - We are dismantling unfair and racist systems that disproportionately criminalize, imprison and deport people of color and the unsheltered population. In turn, we reinvest resources into prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services.
  2. Immigrant Justice - We are advocating for a pathway to legal and permanent residency for immigrant families, so we can participate in our shared prosperity together. We will protect our brothers and sisters who are undocumented and ensure that no one stands alone with the threat of inhumane deportation.
  3. Affordable Housing & Homelessness - We are protecting existing affordable housing units and advocating for services and policies that create more affordable housing for our families and lift our communities across the county out of homelessness.
  4. County Government Accountability - We are ensuring our tax dollars are spent where they matter, to build better lives for all families. We do this through an increased awareness of the County’s role in funding programs, increasing accountability, transparency and community participation in the budgeting process, with particular emphasis on health and human services and justice system resources.

The vehicles through which we address these issues are: leadership development & training, community education, civic engagement and advocacy.

Together, we are building a new vision of what is possible in our neighborhoods.

Support us in making that vision a reality!

Hear from our community members about how SDOP has transformed their lives:

SDOP invests in community relationships and leadership formation, and leadership development is organic to SDOP’s work and permeates all we do. Our grassroots leaders use community experiences to shape public policy, build active constituencies and bring the necessary resources to bear on their needs through direct power relationships with officials and key stakeholders.

Together with their elected officials, our leaders transform their communities, advocate for and champion policies rooted in justice.
