Since 1979, the Santa Fe Mountain Center has been providing experiential and adventure-based programs for children, youth, families and groups. Two of SFMC signature programs, Adventure OUT! and the New Mexico Gay Straight Alliance Network focus on building the resiliency of individuals in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning community.
NM GSA NETWORK:
Each year, the New Mexico Gay Straight Alliance Network (NMGSAN) supports more than 800 youth and adults through over 50 trainings and presentations. Our program helps LGBTQ young people be more resilient, stronger leaders and activists. We also help build the capacity of Gay Straight Alliance Clubs (GSAs) to create safer, more inclusive and more welcoming schools.
This is what NMGSAN participants say:
“After every camp I have so many more resources to help support myself and my GSA. I love it here!”
“This is the only youth group I've been to that has made me feel accepted and comfortable.”
“I learned so much and feel that [my GSA] will really benefit from my being here.”
“This was a really fantastic experience!”
“Thank you so much. SFMC is my second home and family.”
Adventure OUT! offers gay, bisexual and transgender New Mexicans opportunities to experience adventure, improve their health and wellness and build community. This unique program integrates HIV prevention with experiential education to reduce the transmission of HIV, STIs and viral hepatitis.
“Thank you for the work that you do. This is not just a simple platitude coming from me. It is coming from my heart. I needed to be a part of your last two programs, without even realizing how much I needed the program (e.g., the camaraderie, the discussions, the support). Whether it's been due to inner struggles with non-sober thoughts, or a 50-year old's change of life, or whatever…I don't know; but I've been feeling adrift within myself lately. Simply attending your program events (i.e., Adventure Out) has given me pause-for-deeper-thoughts, and has helped me feel connected again, within myself and to others. The programs are valuable, especially to men who are "repeats" (e.g., attending the program multiple times). They give us a chance to check-in, re-ground ourselves, and re-connect with a supportive community. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.” ~Adventure OUT! client
“Thank you for a great weekend. As I reflect, it was better than 30 days @ Betty Ford. The awareness you provided is going to allow me to set healthy boundaries , good choices. I look forward to the future today, just a little sore from snowshoeing, lol.” ~Adventure OUT! client
