Santa Lucia Festival Committee is a 100% volunteer membership committee of Catholics that work together to host an annual Italian festival honoring the Patron Saint of Carlentini, Sicily, Santa Lucia (Saint Lucy). We are celebrating our 101st festival later this summer right on the doorsteps of Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in our Little Italy neighborhood of Omaha, Nebraska. The festival helps us honor Saint Lucy, preserve the Italian heritage of Omaha's Little Italy, and support the needs of our community.
First and foremost, Santa Lucia is a Catholic organization. We start and end each member meeting in prayer as we gather at least monthly to share our history and our faith. We have designated membership committees to support our members, evangelize to new members, and minister to young women using the life of Saint Lucy as an example. We host quarterly communion masses at Saint Frances Cabrini and community events throughout the year.
We also honor our Italian heritage. In the early 1900s a large contingent from Carlentini, Sicily came to Omaha in search of a better life for their families. They settled in what is now known as Little Italy, started businesses, and passed on their traditions of food, art, music, and faith to the next generation. Over 100 years later, we still honor our ancestors and look to impart the same traditions to the next generation. The Santa Lucia Hall serves as a community center for our neighborhood and also as a museum preserving our Italian heritage.
Your support will allow us to continue using our annual festival as a way to express our Catholic faith and inspire others to live their Catholic faith.
