RESIDENT STORIES

Marge worked her entire life. She owned a condo and received a small pension. When Marge was in her late 70s and experiencing bouts of dementia, her unemployed son moved in and convinced his mother to put his name on the deed. He was also able to access her bank account and would regularly raid it for cash. By the time Marge moved to Sarah Daft Home, he’d mortgaged her home as well. An
examination of her bank account showed that $3.00 remained.

Barbara raised four children and worked into her 70s. She was proud of always paying her own way but was undermined by mental issues including hoarding and
depression. Barbara was shuffled between her children’s homes, creating an abundance of misunderstandings and frustration. She eventually became incapacitated by depression, necessitating a hospital stay. A physician suggested Sarah Daft Home—where Barbara has lived and thrived ever since.

Mei emigrated from China with her husband. After he died, she was totally alone. Under the onset of dementia, Mei neglected her house—leaving broken doors ajar,
allowing dogs and ducks to wander the home at random. Members of an organization serving Asians learned of her circumstances but before they could intercede, Mei was robbed and her home deeded to strangers. A neighbor contacted the State of Utah, a guardian was appointed and Mei moved into Sarah Daft Home.

More than 80% of our residents would be unable to afford the care they receive without some form of financial assistance.

For over 100 years, Sarah Daft Home has cared for the elderly and the disabled--women and men who need a secure home and assistance with everyday needs. Some
residents have no family to care for them. Some come from abusive situations. All have limited incomes and minimal resources at a vulnerable time in their lives.

Please help keep Sarah Daft Home affordable for everyone!
