Sara's Shared Dream: Feeding McCulloch County

Sara's Shared Dream purchases and delivers food to McCulloch County seniors and those facing food insecurity. Generally we deliver on the 4th Saturday of every month. Each individual receives a bag of groceries to prepare healthy meals for the weekend. We attempt to provide fresh produce and meat with every delivery. These bags are hand delivered to the doors of those in need, providing not only healthy food but also a friendly face and welfare check.

We are currently feeding about 268 individuals comprising 144 households. Over half of our recipients are either over 65 or under 18. It is our goal to make each delivery one that provides a nutritious supply of food items that can be used for several servings of a family-style meal. This past year a cookbook was created by one of our volunteers and each home received a copy with their Thanksgiving delivery. Since our inception, we have been able to offer many special items that have been provided by our volunteers and local supports. These range from gifts during the holidays, gallons of water, pet food, clothing for grandchildren when they moved in with grandparents and even a birthday cake and presents when called upon to do so. We have enjoyed being able to share this mission with the local Boy Scout Troops and even some of our High School civic organizations. Several church groups have stepped up to provide monthly donations. We utilize volunteers to help deliver to these homes. So that means that each of the routes are delivered by caring individuals who befriend those they serve. Every food recipient is treated with respect and dignity.....They truly become part of the family. Whether it be donating protein, or shelf-stable milk, fresh vegetables and fruit or household items like toilet paper, we love getting to be of help and service to our community!
