  • Host multi-lingual Community Advocates to support community members accessing social, legal, and housing services
  • Strengthen our mentorship and healthy relationship programming for at-risk immigrant youth
  • Expand our culturally-responsive counseling and case management services for African women and girls impacted by violence

Sauti Yetu Center for African Women, Inc. is a community-based social services organization dedicated to uplifting African and other immigrant women and families by championing their needs, rights and voices.

Our mission is to mobilize low and no-income African immigrant women to improve the quality of their lives, strengthen their families and develop their communities in the United States, starting in New York City.

Since 2004, Sauti Yetu’s team of legal, social service and public health professionals provides a continuum of individualized and community education, resources and support services to help prevent and/or address concerns around domestic and gender based violence, legal issues, relationship and reproductive health, and access to health care. Services include:

  • Case Management
  • Counseling & Social Work
  • Legal Support
  • Access to Health Insurance & Primary Care
  • Educational Workshops & Discussion Groups

Sauti Yetu also provides training, reports and educational resources to our peers and partners in the community.

Our community comprises the rich, vibrant and diverse immigrant communities of New York City–in particular, first, 1.5 and second generation women, youth and families living in and around the South Bronx. More than 50% of our clients came to New York from countries across West, North and East Africa, and we also work with African American, Hispanic and other immigrant families.

Most often, community members come to Sauti Yetu with concerns about legal and work status, limited English proficiency, interrupted formal education, domestic and gender-based violence, and navigating social support resources available in New York City.
