Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue

Our mission at Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue is  to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home donkeys and mules in need. We also provide educational opportunities that create awareness of the human/animal bond, as well as the specific needs of long ears. We don't just listen to the physical needs of the animals by providing them hay, shelter, water and supplementation where needed. We also strive to heal the emotional/ spiritual side of the animals as well. We are able to do this using a mix of holistic and western medicine to provide healing support to donkeys and mules who need us during the most vulnerable time in their lives. 
Many animals who come to us are beloved pets who can no longer be cared for by the owner due to declining health, loss of a job, or the loss of a spouse. We take this seriously and care for the animals as if they are our very own. Many animals are adopted out once they are healthy again, some stay for years some stay for a few months, but they stay until they are healthy enough to find their forever home. 

When animals arrive they are assessed physically to see their weight, height, and to access any injuries they may or may not have. Many animals come in physically healthy but are emotionally scarred and have many behavioral issues that need to be fixed, for these cases we believe slow and steady is the way to go, and we only use positive reinforcement training methods. 

Once the animals settle in they receive any vet care, medication, supplementation, diet adjustments they may need to get healthy, hoof care and trims, and more TLC to get them feeling good. Many animals start to come out of their shell after just a few days, but some take weeks or even months of rehabilitation. 

We understand not everyone can give a lot, we appreciate every single dollar donated and so do the donkeys and mules at SYA.
