Saving Southern Kitties is a grass roots, volunteer and foster based organization situated in York County, SC just outside of Charlotte, NC. We feature and showcase our kitties at our partner Pet Store adoption center located in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte, NC.

Our rescue was born out of learning the dire need for cat rescues, after realizing the statistics of euthanasia rates for cats and kittens at area animal controls here in the South. Some rural facilities were euthanizing almost every single cat. We are now in our 10th year of operation.

Our Mission is to save cats and kittens from area animal controls where they often get just a couple of days to find rescue. We are often the only chance for any medical needs kitties who are labeled "rescue only".  We have a small team of fosters who are very well versed with medical knowledge who provide all of the love, care and medical attention necessary to make our cats whole again. A few, who are neonate specialists,  give bottle babies a chance at a life, as shelters just do not have the ability to hold and care for them around the clock.

With top notch foster guidelines, vetting standards and adoption protocols, our process works to ensure that we are earning our reputation as one of the very best cat rescues around. We find wonderful homes for our cats and kittens!

We are truly experiencing tough times since Covid hit in 2020, as we are sure everyone rescue is feeling the same. This contest was a Godsend for us in 2021. It is truly what has kept us afloat. While we thought 2021 was bad, unfortunately 2022 is turning out to be even worse.  This may well have been the worst kitten season on record here locally.  And sadly, this year has been one where we have had cats adopted years ago being surrendered back to us. That's something that happens usually once  annually if that. But this year we have already taken back 6. Being foster based we just don't have the spaces sitting empty and when we have to take back kitties, those prevent us from saving others. Not to mention those cats are now seniors and get overlooked all the time. Cats and even kittens are staying with us longer than ever as well.  Adoptions are just extremely slow. People have gone back to traveling and back to their offices full time or they already adopted during covid, so we  are just not seeing the adopters out that we would normally expect.  Vetting, not to mention food and litter costs are up over 30% from last year. And when the cats stay for 6-9 months and some even longer, the costs just to care for them all of that time is just exorbitant.  Other than Giving Tuesday, this contest is our biggest lifeline to allow us to continue what we do. We may well be one of the smallest organizations operationally in this contest.  We need to grow our donor base and ask that you please consider supporting our cause as a monthly contributor and ask you friends,  so that we can continue the wonderful work that we do.  Here you see your money in action. We truly need to make up for all of the covid losses and figure out our way forward just so we can stay operational responsibly and continue to save lives.  This money would be a godsend in such difficult times! We thank everyone for all that you do to support our mission! Our video and pics are just a sampling of a few of the kitties we've cared for.
