If you could help hundreds of underserved families achieve housing and financial stability, would you? Could you?

Everyone needs a safe, stable place to live.

The need is real:

The cost of living is skyrocketing for everyone, but post-pandemic housing and financial struggles are especially devastating for our neighbors already living in poverty. Richmond, Virginia marks poverty rates among Black households at 28% and Latinx households at 20%, both more than double the 10% poverty rate of their white counterparts. 1 in 3 children in the Richmond region are economically disadvantaged with 51% of Black and Latino children growing up in homes fighting to make ends meet, put food on the table and pay the rent. (VVC KidsCount, 2018). This is occurring right here in our community and SCDHC needs your help to stabilize and empower Black and Brown households facing economic and housing insecurity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The need is urgent:

Even as we celebrate success with the thousands of families SCDHC has helped over the past 32 years, there is still much work to be done here in Central Virginia in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Petersburg is the unhealthiest locality in the entire Commonwealth ranking last in health outcomes that consider food access, disease rates, availability of adequate housing, drug overdose deaths, violent crime and homicide rates. (Richmond Times Dispatch, May 5, 2022) With pandemic eviction protections recently ending and exponential increases in rental costs, approximately 34% of households in Central Virginia cannot afford their rents and fear eviction within the next two months. The RVA Eviction Lab predicts eviction rates are climbing and more families will soon be at risk of homelessness. (RVA Eviction Lab, 2021)
