Science Foundation Arizona

Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2006 to diversify Arizona’s economy by improving the K-12 education system by investing in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education to create a 21st century work force.

We focus on improving academic achievement in science and math across the K-12 system, with investments in programs such as STEM and Robotics clubs, STEM immersion programs for schools, and providing technology and updated equipment to high poverty schools especially in rural Arizona.  We also have field staff that work with teachers across the State and provide both on-line and in-person assistance.

Business leaders in Arizona have sounded an alarm. They cannot find the talent they need to stay competitive. Students' lagging performance in K-12 is a critical reason why. To address this challenge, Arizona is raising the bar.  These are promising developments, but to succeed amid profound practical, political and financial challenges, teachers need help, especially in rural Arizona where there is limited or no corporate support and poverty increases the challenges.  Your contribution will enable us to continue this effort.

We need to ensure that schools and students have opportunities to meet a higher bar. Not enough Arizona students, least of all minorities, have the chance to learn challenging content to prepare them for college and careers, and math and science teachers say they lack the resources they need. Arizona’s science scores are among the lowest on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). We simply must provide teachers with the resources they need, including the technology, equipment and supplies so that every child gets a quality education.
