Phoenix-based Scorpius Dance Theatre has built a reputation as one of the state’s leading arts organizations, including “Best Contemporary Dance Company” and "Best Dance Collective" by Phoenix New Times. Although defined as contemporary dance, Scorpius doesn’t easily fit into a mold. Founded by Lisa Starry, Scorpius has been entertaining audiences since 1997 with its unique combination of dance, theatre, and aerial performing arts. Not your typical dance productions, Scorpius encourages audience response and oftentimes, audience interaction. The productions feature elements that anyone can relate to, including comedy, well-known music, and pop culture themes. Scorpius aims to engage dance enthusiasts and dance novices alike with its uniquely accessible, highly entertaining style of performance art.

Scorpius’ performance season consists of three major productions held at Phoenix Theatre and new this year, the Peoria Performing Arts Center. For additional exposure, Scorpius also volunteers its time performing at various community events throughout the season. Even with a full house, ticket sales alone do not cover the costs of staging a professional production. To continue presenting professional caliber productions, fundraising is an ongoing need for Scorpius.

Fundraising is currently underway for Scorpius’ summer production of Catwalk…I Love Duran Duran. This show is a revamped reincarnation of Catwalk, which debuted two years ago to sold-out audiences. This popular fashion runway themed production returns with a focus on the iconic '80s British rock band, Duran Duran. The original dance production fuses funky fashions and sexy athleticism with fashion runway parodies and video and music montages. This season's revamped version of Catwalk will feature all new works by Starry, plus live performances with the popular L.A Duran Duran tribute band, Rio.

A donation to Scorpius Dance Theatre will be contributed to the Catwalk performance fund to ensure that audiences can continue to enjoy Scorpius’ unique style of performance art. Expenses include, but are not limited to production and administrative staff fees, dancer stipends, theatre rental, licensing agreements, costumes, sets, and equipment.
