Habitat for Humanity International Inc - Scott County Hfh

Scott County Habitat began in 1990 as a dream of one man, Tom Scholl. Local residents who shared this dream assembled in a church basement and commitments were made to alleviate substandard housing for as many families as possible in Georgetown and Scott County. To date 30 homes have been completed and we are in the planning phase for 2 more homes this year. We have worked to repair and rehab more than 50 homes in addition to the builds.  We strive to transform and enhance the lives of children in our community by providing permanent housing. They can stay in one school and have friends in the neighborhood with whom lasting bonds can be formed. We have seen grades improve, health concerns have been addressed with handicapped accessability provided. Parents and children can go to bed at night in a safe secure home.  We do depend on donations of labor and money to continue our work. We budget and build as carefully as possible and we utilize almost all volunteer labor. We do hire Plumbers, Electricians, and others who are required by state law to be licensed. Habitat does get some supplies donated but the majority of all materials that go into a build or repair project must be purchased.  On average a three bedroom Habitat Home will cost $69,000.00. A comparable home in Scott County would be close to if not double that amount  amount if purchased new. Familes pay the down payment to Habitat in "Sweat Equity" hours and then repay the loan with an interest free mortgage which is then used to fund more houses.  All funds stay in Scott County! Our goal is to give the residents of Scott County a hand up!! We are currently in need of funds to prepare existing property we own for houses.  Your donation today would allow us to make homes available for as many as 6 more families.
