Our Mission: Motivated by God's love Scott United Ministries, Inc. (S.U.M), provides basic human services to help improve the quality of life for Scott County residents in need.

Through the AMEN House (Associate Ministries Easing Need) we Boost family resources by providing food, clothing, personal hygiene items, household goods, and financial assistance to those in need; Thanksgiving baskets for over 200 families so they might enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner; Holiday Hope to make Christmas a day of love and joy for over 45 children; Volunteers rendered 7,024 food & clothing service contacts last Fiscal year; Feed the Children: distributed 400 boxes of food to families with children; Senior Commodities: packed and distributed food to 2016 seniors

When I was in need you helped: Ordered to move from substandard housing, a mother and her family lived in a car in the park at night. The parents took the children to school everyday and picked them up just to ride around or park in parking lots until dark when they returned to the park to sleep. No one knew that they were homeless, had child welfare known this they could have taken the children. We were able to provide lodging while they searched for housing. This is just one of the many stories of struggling residents of our community.

A mother struggling to manage her household, when her child is experiencing hearing problems and she can't afford to buy a hearing aid. If she spends money for the hearing aid she can expect to have her electricity turned off because she won't be able to pay the bill. Here another example of families struggling in our community.

No insurance and diagnosed with cancer, $100.00 required upfront just to get in to see a doctor. No job, no income where do I go, I don't know any place else to go are you able to help me. Another story of hopelessness and stress, struggling in our community.

I just got my pay check and paid my rent but I don't have enough left to pay my water bill. They're going to shut-off my water if I don't have the bill paid by this date. I came to see if you could help with this bill. Not an uncommon story in the community, worked but the income is not enough to sustain the family and pay all the bills.

I take my medicine every other day so that it will last longer. Seniors choosing between medicine and paying the rent and buying food. They're in our community.
