The need for early childhood education and parent training has expanded exponentially as the central DeKalb County service populations have grown and become much more diverse. According to the US Census Report from July 2017, there are 753,253 residents of Dekalb County. Of those residents, 7% (52,727) were under the age of 5. In the year 2016, there were 44,482 children reported as living in poverty throughout the County Young children who live in families that are impacted by gross poverty, more often than not, receive very little to no mental stimulation or nurturing during the most formative and critical years of their early development based on data from National Kids Count, there were over 46% of eligible young children not enrolled in a high-quality early learning preschool during that same period.

We serve up to 450 children and families annually and more than 85% are considered low income.  With the changes in our community due to Covid 19 and rising costs of living expenses, we have more families than ever before that cannot afford care and are in need of scholarships. Scottdale Early Learning has 38 spots that can be awarded scholarships per year. This year our goal is to raise $20,000 to support our schollarship fund through Giving Tuesday! We need your support.  For every $1 invested in quality early-childhood education for underprivileged children, $13 is saved in future hard costs to the community and immeasurable in-tangible costs of crime and poverty are saved each year.
