This year marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Scranton Shakespeare Festival’s birth. Somewhere in the overlap, a great deal of exciting things happened. The Scranton Shakespeare Festival earned an official 501(c)3 status. The SSF offered numerous performances of five different, professional productions in a single summer. Four original plays and musicals that premiered in Scranton received critical acclaim and an Off- Broadway run and in Dallas, and London. Our acting company continues to excel professionally, throughout the county, the country, and the world. And most importantly, something else happened:

a company created a community and a community created a company.

You sat beneath umbrellas and watched us in the rain. You’ve laughed with us. You’ve cried with us. You’ve volunteered behind the scenes. You’ve shared us with your friends. You helped create something. We are honored to be here. It is our pleasure to share our fifth season of exciting, professional, free theatre:

In addition to our commitment to producing excellent theatre, the SSF is committed to providing theatrical programming, not only for the audience of today, but also for the audience of tomorrow. This summer our acting company will work alongside high school students to create original works. This new initiative will not only provide high school students with an opportunity to create new work but also perform it.

The Festival has become an integral part of the community. We are honored to participate in a renaissance of theatre in Northeastern Pennsylvania and to contribute to Scranton’s rich theatrical history. Your tax-deductible donation to the Scranton Shakespeare Festival will ensure its future. Thank you for your consideration.
