SEA-Media (Salish Magazine)

Salish Magazine is a free, online magazine that takes inquisitive readers outdoors. Our in-depth storytelling is related to things people can see firsthand in our public forests and beaches. Published by SEA-Media, Salish Magazine uses engaging imagery, prose, poetry, and even audio to illuminate the interconnectedness woven through our ecosystems through lenses of history, science, and culture.

From up-close views of pollination to the mysterious lives of sea anemones, Salish Magazine uses 21st century methods to deliver engaging stories that are interactive, rich in visual imagery, scientifically correct, and fun to read.

Why Donate to Salish Magazine/SEA-Media?

Salish Magazine offers regional environmental education, supporting creative and curious minds of all ages. Nature has just a tiny presence in the mainstream media, seldom even appearing in their online menus that feature mainly politics, sports, business, technology, fashion, etc. Salish Magazine is making our environment more present in the media.

Our publication also serves as valuable resource to parents and home educators to inspire outdoor scientific learning.

SEA-Media is the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that produces Salish Magazine.

What Do Donations Support?

As a completely ad-free publication, Salish Magazine relies on donations to offset overhead costs. Production of the magazine has been done entirely by volunteers who give their time freely to produce compelling written and visual content, as well as editing, layout, and promotion.

Now in our sixth year of publication, to support the sustainable growth of Salish Magazine, we have offered honoraria to content contributors, funded by donations. 

We also are in the process of hiring a  contract Managing Editor to assume some of the burden of turning creative content into the attractive magazine that readers have come to expect. 

Furthermore, we have plans to develop more interactive features to help convey the beauty and complexity of our ecosystems.
