The mission of the Seacoast Village Project is to create a community of older adults who work together to improve their odds of being able to grow older in their homes and communities by getting connected, getting smart and helping each other out.
Seniors are a growing segment of the population and Seacoast Village Project offers an important and practical solution for those wishing to stay in their homes and communities as they age—a peer-to-peer network that supports the social, educational, and functional needs of older adults living independently. Members acknowledge that their needs will undoubtedly shift as they age. Our mission is to build a caring network that reduces isolation and is responsive to people’s needs over time.
Founded in 2018 and based on the national Village Movement model of neighbor-helping-neighbor, Seacoast Village Project is a member-run 501c3 nonprofit organization. Financial support for the Seacoast Village Project is provided by membership dues coupled with donations and grants from individuals, businesses and foundations who understand and believe in the mission of the Seacoast Village Project. Our growing membership (270+ and counting) continues to shape and refine our understanding of what Village members need and want as they age. We are currently offering an array of services including: rides/carpooling options (for medical appointments and errands); light home maintenance/seasonal outdoor tasks; educational, social and cultural programs and events; short-term, non-medical at-home support after hospitalization; and in-home technology support to reduce the digital divide. Our goal at Seacoast Village Project is to make “aging in place” a real option for older adults on the Seacoast. Based on the successful neighbor-helping-neighbor village model used in over 250 villages across the country, we offer practical services to support the overall health, social, and educational needs of older adults.
What is this village? It is not a place! We are a group of individuals working together to help people stay in their homes and remain a vital part of the communities they love. Local communities include Exeter, Portsmouth, Greenland, New Castle, Rye, North Hampton, Hampton, Seabrook, Stratham and Dover. We are a member-run all volunteer organization providing services, programs, events and educational offerings to support to each other. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, we have been providing free, non-contact Community Support Memberships offering phone check-ins, errands to grocery stores, pharmacies, and other retail outlets, and online social gatherings. Our fellow villagers tell us that these outreach efforts are a source of comfort, and that the online offerings reduce the isolation that so many older adults are experiencing.
As public health restrictions are lifted in our communities, we will be phasing in a full array of services including:
• Rides/carpooling options (for medical appointments and errands)
• Light home maintenance/seasonal outdoor tasks
• Cultural, educational, and social activities
• Short-term, non-medical support at home after hospitalization
• In-home technology support to reduce the digital divide
We count on the community to support our mission. Your donation can make a real difference in the lives of older residents in your community and foster deeper community connections. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, every dollar goes to helping older adults age in place. There are specific ways your donation can help Seacoast Village Project have a greater impact.
Thank you for contributing to the success and growth of our organization!
