Our namesake, SPC Sean Walsh was a MP in the California Army  National Guard and was killed in Operation Enduring Freedom in the Khost region of Afghanistan on November 16th 2011 at the age of 21.

Sean's goal was to be a police officer and his dream was to be a K9 Handler (information can be found on www.seansk9s.org under "about us" and "about Sean"). Unfortunately, Sean would have to wait to become a handler because the Army National Guard does not have K9 units.

Sean’s friends and family established the Sean M. Walsh K-9 Memorial Foundation in December of 2011 and we received our non-profit status in March of 2012.

The goal of the Foundation is to provide grants to Law Enforcement Agencies to establish or maintain K-9 team. We focus on, but are not limited to, providing grants to purchase dogs, K-9 equipment and training.

We are not specific for any city or state.  We do not require the Law Enforcement agency to use a specific breeding or training vendor.  They are able to utilize their vendor of choice.  More information can be found by downloading our brochures on the "about us" tab on the website at www.seansk9s.org.

As of April 2016, we have provided 17 grants resulting in the purchase of 14 dogs and other equipment.  Although our primary focus is in Northern California, our grants have gone to agencies in the states of California, Maine and New York.   We are anticipating an increase in requests and are hoping to be able to fund 12 K9 dogs in 2016.
