Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee operates various programs to distribute food and grocery products through partner agencies. Those programs are: * Food Bank Warehouse: Agencies obtain food and grocery products from the Food Bank warehouse. These items are then given to those in need through food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and other non-profits feeding organizations. * Second Helpings: Prepared food that has not been served to the public is collected from restaurants, caterers, grocery stores, and other food vendors then redistributed to agencies providing on-site feeding programs. Since 1999 more than two million pounds of food has not been rescued and used to help people in-need. * Kid’s Cafe: Nutritious snacks, meals and nutrition education are provided to children at-risk for hunger and malnutrition. Through partnerships with after-school programs and community organizations ten cafes have been established to date. * Food for Kids: This is a collaborative effort between the Food Bank and area schools to provide food to children who may have little or nothing to eat during the weekend or school vacations. Nutritious food and child-friendly snacks are given in a backpack or other carrier to selected children to take home twice a month. * Mobile Food Bank: Many rural agencies lack sufficient funding or manpower to transport food from our warehouse to their facilities so deliveries are made. * Mobile Food Pantry/Fresh Foods Program: This program provides mass distributions of food to low-income individuals by distributing bags of groceries to public housing residents in various communities on a rotating basis.
