Second Presbyterian Church Weekday School

Second Presbyterian Church Weekday School began serving preschool and kindergarten age children in 1954 as an outreach to the community. In 2013, the school expanded to welcome infants and toddlers to our program. Our educational philosophy is based on meeting the developmental dimensions of children: physical, emotional, social, cognitive, moral, and creative development. Our program is strongly influenced by Jean Piaget, the Reggio Emilia Approach, and Maria Montessori. We build strong, respectful relationships with children and offer experiential, hands-on learning opportunities so they can connect more deeply with the world and see themselves as capable and competent lifelong learners. We build our curriculum with our knowledge of child development milestones and through close observation of children's interests and investigations. Connecting with nature and making memories outdoors are valued and folded into curriculum planning as are literacy, mathematics, art, music, movement, dramatic play, and social-emotional learning. The intentional materials, schedules, and layouts of each classroom invite inquiry, collaboration, and focused engagement so children can dive into self-initiated learning adventures through play and interaction with each other. We hope that when our students leave 2nd Pres, they: 

• trust themselves,
• feel confident asking questions and exploring to find answers,
• actively listen to the voices of others and assuredly share their own,
• are resilient when facing challenges and obstacles, 
• maintain their curiosity and wonder about the world around them, and 
• see learning as a joyful experience.

Tuition revenue goes directly to paying our excellent teachers which means we rely on fundraising to help us meet the remainder of our annual budget.
