Since 1998 -- thanks to generous financial support from the community -- professional, caring and committed adults have offered a Second Chance to hundreds of troubled, at-risk youth in the River Region. Many of “our kids” have successfully returned to school and become happy, productive adults.

Second Chance is a therapeutic behavioral and academic remediation program that provides daily instruction and mental health counseling services to expelled students throughout the school year and during the summer.  The program is designed to provide individualized services to students and families to address underlying personal, behavioral, and family problems that resulted in exclusion from school.

Expelled kids can’t go to school anywhere – except Second Chance.

Without Second Chance they would be on the streets with no hope or future.

  • Some assaulted teachers or brought weapons to school
  • Some have been in disruptive fights or brought drugs to school
  • Some were so defiant and disrespectful that they disrupted learning for everyone

They have made mistakes, serious mistakes –

But they are children – they are our children – and they have problems -

  • Some are angry and filled with grief because of losses we can’t imagine
  • Some feel isolated and alienated and try to belong in dangerous ways
  • Some have faced challenges at home on in their neighborhoods so overwhelming that it is a miracle that they get up every morning to try again

How do we help them?

  • They need caring adults who are able to really get to know them and their family situation.
  • They need individual attention and therapy that cannot be provided in a large school
  • They need a place to attend every day and go to class
  • A place where they get another chance to learn about choices and consequences
  • A place with people who believe in them and support them
  • A place where they are shown their worth and potential so clearly that they may be inspired to see it in themselves

They need Second Chance.
