Senior Action Inc

Senior Action, Inc. is the non-profit organization that supports three programs in South Central Nebraska that are vital to the health and well being of senior adults and those they serve.  These three programs are:  Meals on Wheels, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP).

Meals on Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals to the homes of people who are homebound due to age or disability.  The meal provides 1/3 of the daily requirement of food according to the State of Nebraska guidelines.  These meals are delivered 5 days per week as well as on holidays.  Meals are prepared in a state certified facility and are delivered by Senior Action volunteers.  These volunteers are dedicated and friendly and they are often the only people the clients see during the day.  In 2013 almost 16,000 meals were delivered in Hastings.

RSVP provides an opportunity for adults 55 and over to share their life experiences and skills with their community and neighbors in need.  Volunteers are placed at 45 stations throughout Adams and Webster counties.  Some examples of what RSVP volunteers do are:  Delivering mail to residents in nursing homes, sewing pillowcases for soldies, and rocking babies in day care centers.

FGP places older Americans in local schools, child care centers and Head Start programs.  FGP helps at risk children up to the age of 21 to succeed in the class room.  They provide a listening ear, tutoring, unconditional love and words of praise to children with special needs.  Volunteers serve from 15 to 40 hours per week.  Senior Action supports 40 FGP volunteers in a 15 county area.  These dedicated volunteers served 40,653 hours in 2013.
