Seniors in Service of Tampa Bay Inc

Seniors in Service of Tampa Bay, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)3 founded in 1984,
provides solutions to community challenges by engaging volunteers aged 55+.

2017 Outcomes:

Foster Grandparent Program
•198 highly trained tutor volunteers served 138,166 hours to help children succeed in school
•2,898 economically disadvantaged Pre-K thru 3rd graders received daily mentoring
•601 children selected by their teacher as most challenged received one-on-one tutoring
•97% of children improved literacy skills and 96% improved emotional/social skills – as evaluated by their teacher, NOT by Seniors in Service  

Senior Companion Program
•67 compassionate volunteers served 58,005 hours to help elders remain independent
•274 low-income isolated elders, disabled adults or struggling veterans received help with errands, daily chores and companionship plus respite for their overwhelmed caregivers
•90% of clients served reported improved quality of life
•We save our community over $3,000 per month to support an elder in institutional housing

Operation: Veteran Connect Program
•We engaged 20 AmeriCorps Members to promote independence and wellness for 600 Veterans & Military Family Members, enabling them to live life to the fullest.
•We engaged 20 Community Volunteers helping with Whole Health special projects.
•We are Florida’s first AmeriCorps program focused EXCLUSIVELY on Veterans
•We collaborate with James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital & Clinics to implement their groundbreaking Whole Health initiative, mobilizing veterans as volunteers who coach veterans to create self-directed wellness plans that go beyond clinical care to encompass fitness, education, employment, housing, financial health & more!

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
•289 aged 55+ volunteers served 18,111 hours to help with education, companionship, food insecurity and capacity building
•We matched people age 55+ with the volunteer opportunity of their dreams, benefiting 3,000 people in our community
