Caring Solutions

Founded in 2001, Services By Design dba Caring Solutions is recognized for a personalized approach to discerning the needs and aspirations of each individual with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy or other developmental disabilities. It starts with getting to know the person with the disability and his or her family/guardian. Backgrounds vary as they come from loving homes, aging parents, broken homes, long-term hospitalization and homelessness.

Whether the person may only need a few hours of support or like the majority served--24-hour around-the-clock staffing and assistance--Caring Solutions knows one size does not fit all and is stepping up to serve those with great need in the Greater St. Louis Area and in surrounding Missouri counties.

One of the first nonprofit organizations in the state to offer host family settings and later a companion staff setting model of service, Caring Solutions also offers Individualized Supported Living (ISL) as well as Independent Living Assistance (ILA) and in-home support. In February 2017, Caring Solutions opened Valentine Place in Ferguson--the first therapeutic respite home in Missouri for children and adults who have developmental disabilities and additional significant behavioral challenges--many of whom are still living in their family home. Referrals come from all over the state for this service. Caring Solutions also offers crisis assistance to families in their homes in both scheduled and emergency situations. The Missouri Department of Mental Health has lauded this successful pilot project as one worthy of replication due to the growing number of families in the state who are dealing with physically and emotionally-draining situations every day that end up affecting the entire family unit. Plans are underway to establish a therapeutic respite home in Jefferson County.
