The University's major funding priority is undergraduate scholarship support to strengthen its ability to recruit and retain students who have great promise but are challenged financially to stay in college.
Scholarship Endowment
Annually, 85 to 90 percent of the University's full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students are awarded need-based scholarship or grant aid, after which approximately 25% of their financial need still remains unmet. Endowed scholarships ensure that college education is attainable for our students now and in the future. Increasing the endowment is crucial for Seton Hill to continue to recruit and enroll bright students, regardless of their financial resources, while positioning itself firmly within the competitive higher education market.
Academic Programs
Our liberal arts curriculum educates students to think critically; to communicate effectively; and to be creative and world-oriented through 70 undergraduate programs, 10 graduate programs, and an adult-degree program within 6 academic divisions: Business; Education; Humanities; Natural and Health Sciences; Social Sciences; and Visual and Performing Arts. Students can earn both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in five years through the Fast Forward to an MBA or the Physician Assistant programs. Emphasis is on student achievement and preparation for the workforce by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. Enrollment exceeds 2,200 students from 44 states and 20 countries. Seton Hill is recognized as an Apple Distinguished Program for its success in innovative implementations of mobile technology. Through its Center for Innovative Teaching, the campus community is engaged with appropriate use of technology to enrich and expand teaching and learning.
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
In partnership with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), a satellite campus for its osteopathic medicine and pharmacy programs is located at Seton Hill (LECOM at Seton Hill). Through the accelerated 3 + 4 program, students earn their undergraduate degree from Seton Hill in three years and their doctorate of osteopathic medicine degree from LECOM in seven years rather than the usual eight. LECOM provides priority enrollment to Seton Hill students who qualify, and each year LECOM reserves 25 of their 100 spaces for Seton Hill students.
National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education
Established in 1987, Seton Hill's NCCHE fosters scholarship on the causes of antisemitism, its relation to the Holocaust, and the implications from the Catholic perspective of both for today's world. The NCCHE equips educators to enter into serious discussion on the causes of antisemitism and the Holocaust, helps develop curriculum appropriate for all ages, and sustains the Catholic Institute for Holocaust Studies in Israel through a cooperative program with Yad Vashem, Hebrew University, and Isaac Jacob Institute for Religious Law. NCCHE co-founder, Sr. Gemma Del Duca, received the Excellence in Holocaust Education Award from Yad Vashem for her work.
Community Outreach
Post-doctoral residents in Seton Hill's Orthodontics Program provide direct orthodontic care to over 2,400 indigent and low-income patients in southwestern Pennsylvania through its teaching facility, the Center for Orthodontics. Advanced graduate students in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program, with faculty mentorship, provide community members with affordable mental health services through Seton Hill's Center for Family Therapy, a community-based mental health center and training site located in downtown Greensburg, PA. The Wukich Center for Entrepreneurial Opportunities provides support for all business majors, including business plan development, business model competitions, lecture series, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Wukich Scholars and interns programs, and initial capital for approved student businesses. Through the Community Arts Program, qualified Seton Hill instructors teach artistic development in dance and music to Westmoreland County residents of all ages.
