Saint Francis International School

A nonprofit organization

Saint Francis International School was founded in 2010 from the merger of St. Mark the Evangelist and St. Camillus Catholic Schools.

Today, SFIS serves hundreds of students age three through 8th grade.  Racially, ethnically, and linguistically our school is very diverse with over 80% of our students having at least one parent born in over 50 different countries.

Our families come to us with a broad variety of socio-economic situations, but our goal is to serve whoever wants to be part of our learning community.

In order to do the good work that we do, we need partners ... Will you be our partner in serving children and their families?

Who We Are

Saint Francis International School is Franciscan family that nurtures children to become instruments of God's peace, scholars, and global citizens.

Built on a 65+ year legacy founded by St. Camillus and St. Mark Churches, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, and the Religious of Jesus and Mary, SFIS serves the communities around Silver Spring and Hyattsville, Maryland, as a regional school of the Archdiocese of Washington dedicated to providing the gift of Catholic education for all families.

Our intercultural community brings children age three through the 8th grade together from families with roots around the world. Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christians unite hand-in-hand with people of goodwill and the State of Maryland to make SFIS available and affordable regardless of financial challenges.

Along with many public and private, religious and secular partners we work tireless year round to meet the needs of real families in their quest to help their children to be everything God has intended them to be!
